PCF/OPCF

Most software that you use these days has a “preferences” dialogue box. Somewhere where you can customise the software to your requirements, or at the very least turn off that annoying paper-clip.

We can help you get the best out of your PCF system settingsThe FDI system is no different in this respect. Except that the “preferences” are called the Product Control File (PCF). And there is no paper-clip option.

Most people know that within Microsoft Word the “preferences” can be found under Tools, and Options. If Word had as many “preferences” as the FDI system, the resulting dialogue box would have to have 627 tabs to accommodate them all. We’re basing this on an assumption that the FDI system currently has 8,760 PCF settings (roughly, 20 settings per PCF card across 438 PCF cards).

Of course, if Word did have that many settings, Microsoft would probably bundle them together and put them into a separate piece of software, probably called Microsoft Settings. FDI have already done this. It’s called OPCF (Online PCF).

It’s not something that we admit to at parties, but we like PCF, and we like OPCF even more. But it’s something that might be useful to know should you happen to be looking for a OPCF/PCF expert.
